Група діячів культури виступила проти знесення пам'ятників в Одесі, перейменування вулиць. Вони вважають, що деколонізація в Одесі "не на часі", її потрібно відтермінувати до завершення війни. , яке підписали вже 122 діяча культури. Однак це звернення неоднозначно було сприйнято навіть в самій Одесі.

Подробиці: діячі культури з України та світу звернулися до ЮНЕСКО з проханням вплинути на Президента України Володимира Зеленського, щоб він припинив “невчасний демонтаж культурної спадщини” Одеси до закінчення війни.
Автори наголошують, що більшість історичного центру Одеси, що охороняється ЮНЕСКО, збудовано за російської імперії, а рішення про знесення пам’ятників ухвалювалися без консультацій з громадськістю.
Автори листа просять ЮНЕСКО звернутися до Володимира Зеленського, щоб він відклав рішення про деколонізацію Одеси “до більш сприятливого часу, який (…) настане незабаром після закінчення війни”. Вони переконані, що зі знесенням пам’ятників варто почекати , бо це “ставить під загрозу значну частину світової спадщини Одеси та її поліфонічного космополітичного духу”.
"Внаслідок нападів Росії на Одесу були пошкоджені щонайменше 106 пам'яток архітектури. Тепер над спадщиною міста нависла нова загроза. Цього літа обласна адміністрація поставила під знесення 19 пам'ятників, позбавивши решту охоронного статусу. Деякі з цих пам'яток є невід'ємною частиною архітектурного ансамблю Одеси в самому серці охоронної зони ЮНЕСКО", - написали діячі.
"Виконання закону про деколонізацію призвело до видалення з вулиць імен найвідоміших одеситів. Серед них нобелівський лавреат Іван Бунін, який засуджував радянський режим у своїх працях, номінант на Нобелівську премію Костянтин Паустовський, який критикував радянську революцію, Олександр Пушкін, засланий до Одеси за антицарську діяльність, і найвідоміший одеський письменник Ісаак Бабель, який загинув у сталінських чистках", - наголошують підписанти звернення.
Серед підписантів головний диригент Одеського філармонійного оркестру Гобарт Ерл, голова наукового відділу Одеського художнього музею Кирило Ліпатов, донька Ісака Бабеля Лідія та онук письменника Андрій Маляєв-Бабель, журналіст і громадський діяч Леонід Штекель, художник Михайло Рева, історик, власник туристичної агенції "Тудой-сюдой" Олександр Бабіч, Олексій Ботвінов, український піаніст, заслужений діяч мистецтв України та засновник Odessa Classics Festival, Odesa & Zurich, Юрій Дикий, український піаніст, керівник місії Ойстраха і Ріхтера, Одеса, Борис Херсонський, український поет і психолог, Борис Барський, поет, драматург, керівник театру «Маски», заслужений артист України, Одеса, Владислав Водько, історик України, викладач історії Південноукраїнського національного педагогічного університету тощо.
Однак це звернення викликало неоднозначну реакцію серед одеситів. Так, громадський діяч Дем'ян Ганул, який послідовно бориться за позбавлення Одеси від російсько-імперських символів написав, що це горстка одеситів-ватників, яких вдалося мобілізувати меру Одеси Геннадію Труханову.
Голова Сергій Гуцалюк, керівник Південного міжрегіонального відділу Українського інституту національної пам’яті, історик та учасник бойових дій впевнений, що час для таких звернень змінився.
Юлія Коваленко, програмний директор Міжнародного фестивалю документального кіно про права людини Docudays UA написала, що це звернення підписали, переважно, люди, які жодного дня під російськими ракетами не сиділи.
Більшість підписантів були раніше залучені до скандалів з просуванням російської культури. Так, наприклад, диригентка зі Львова Оксана Линів у квітні 2022 року потрапила в скандал через те, що не відмовилась виступати із росіянами й збиралася диригувати оперу Чайковського «Іоланта» російською мовою в італійському театрі Teatro Comunale Bologna. Після реакції в Україні вона відмовилася від роботи над оперою, пославшись на проблеми зі здоров’ям.
